Professor John Pilbrow is the President of the Australian Institute of Physics and Head of the Department of Physics, Monash University. He obtained his DPhil from Oxford University in 1964 and his DSc from Monash University in 1978. He is the author/co-author of 180 scientific publications in applications of Electron Paramagnetic Resonance to problems in physics, chemistry and biology. His current research interests are: spectroscopic properties of glasses and glass films doped with transition metal ions - development of a stochastic model for EPR spectra in glasses as examples of disordered systems, spin relaxation measurements using pulsed EPR techniques, use of pulsed nutation experiments to probe 'disorder within order' in crystals, and Magnetic Resonance Imaging. He has a wide knowledge of the character of physics and opportunities for physicists in Australia.
