Physics Student support
for Conferences
In March 1999, it was resolved by the committee to support Graduate
Members of the Branch to attend AIP National Congresses and other professional
conferences. The policy formally adopted by the Branch is expressed as
follows:
Travel to AIP congresses would be funded from the $1600 remaining
from the 1997 congress held in Hobart. This is in accordance with a previous
decision made by the committee.
- To apply for a travel grant from these funds a person must be a Graduate
Member of the AIP, and be enrolled as a student in an approved higher degree
course in Tasmania.
- The committee may award one travel grant of $200 to the applicant who
makes the best case for travelling to an AIP National Congress.
Travel to scientific conferences, seminars or workshops other than
an AIP National Congress may also be funded by the Tasmanian Branch of
the AIP.
- To apply for a travel grant a person must be a Graduate Member of the
AIP, and be enrolled as a student in an approved higher degree course in
Tasmania.
- A maximum travel grant of $200 may be awarded by the committee to an
applicant subject to the following conditions:
- The applicant may only apply for $50 travel support during the first
year of Graduate membership.
- After one year of Graduate membership an applicant can apply for travel
support of any amount up to $200, or $150 if $50 has been received in the
first year of Graduate membership.
- No travel support will be provided to any applicant who has already
received a total of $200 support from this scheme.
Graduates wishing to apply should consult their supervisors and a Branch
Committee member, and then write to the Branch Secretary giving details
of their circumstances and of the conference.
