Biophysics

Biophysics is one of the research areas in Physics in the University of Tasmania

Research in plant biophysics was begun after the second world war under the inspiration of the versatile Professor A L McAulay. The biophysics group continued under the leadership of Dr B I H Scott and now Dr I A Newman. Its graduates include several of Australia's leading plant biophysicists. It has active research workers with research projects , including some particularly interesting for Honours and Graduate studies , and publications .

The innovative MIFE ® system for measuring ion fluxes into living tissue has been developed by the group, and has its own MIFE Web site . A definitive review of ion flux measurements and the applications of the MIFE ® system has been published in Plant, Cell & Environment in January 2001.

The Australian Society for Biophysics represents biophysicists in Australia. Their Web site has a variety of information about biophysics - what it is, its applications, research and employment.
